Count discards across the run and use them to find a real scoring hand rather than throwing cards away only for the counter. The card improves permanently, so early acquisition is more valuable when the deck can keep cycling without losing vital pieces.

Yorick has no positional rule; its practical order is the discard phase. Set aside the hand you plan to score, then discard the least useful cards to search without destroying that hand. For example, on a Pair deck, retain the pair and discard off-rank cards; the filter both finds support and advances Yorick’s twenty-three-card counter safely.
