Canio starts modest and becomes extraordinary only when the run can repeatedly destroy face cards on purpose. Take it as a long-term project: identify how you will generate, hold, and remove face cards, then avoid spending those cards in ways that do not advance the counter. Its permanent XMult growth rewards patience more than one spectacular hand.

Canio itself can sit anywhere; place the cards that create or consume its face-card resources according to their own rules. For example, keep a destruction-enabling consumable ready, use it on a face card, and let Canio remain safely on the board while its permanent multiplier rises. Do not move it for visual symmetry if that disrupts a nearby copy effect.

Pareidolia turns every card into a face card and dramatically widens the pool Canio can use, although it still needs a reliable destruction method. Perkeo can preserve valuable consumables that enable the plan, while Hanging Chad belongs beside face-card scoring packages rather than Canio itself. The key synergy is an actual destruction line; face-card labels alone do not grow Canio.

Skip Canio if the deck has no controlled way to destroy cards, if discarding a face card is too expensive, or if the run needs immediate power for the next blind. A legendary status does not make it automatic. Without enough time and card removal, its starting X1 multiplier occupies a premium slot without paying back.

Do not confuse discard with destruction: a card must be destroyed for Canio to grow. Another common failure is taking Pareidolia and assuming the work is finished; it only changes card classification. Plan the removal source, track whether it actually destroys cards, and avoid consuming every face card before the engine is online.

Treat the current in-game tooltip as the source of truth: patches, platform versions, and mods can change values, availability, or interactions. This rating is editorial rather than permanent; it weighs copy value, scaling ceiling, route stability, and required setup. When a version changes, the tooltip is checked before strategy notes and tiers are revised.
