Hanging Chad retriggers the first played card twice, so card order is its real cost. Put the card with the richest scored trigger first: a seal, enhancement, face-card payoff, or another on-card effect. It is excellent once the deck can consistently supply that first card; before then, it can be less reliable than a generic scorer.

Joker-board position does not change Hanging Chad, but played-card order does. Put the card with Photograph, a seal, or the best enhancement first in the hand. For example, lead with a face-card King under Photograph, then play the remaining cards after it; Hanging Chad repeats the first card’s score, not the visually strongest card later in the row.

Photograph is a classic partner because the first played face card supplies X2 Mult and Hanging Chad repeats that trigger. Triboulet rewards a dense King and Queen deck, while Pareidolia makes face-card labels easier to access. Blueprint or Brainstorm can copy a retrigger engine after the deck has a dependable target, multiplying setup quality rather than just adding a number.

Skip Hanging Chad when the first played card has no meaningful scored effect, when your deck cannot reliably choose its lead card, or when the run still lacks enough base score. It does not retrigger every card, and it cannot compensate for a hand that produces almost nothing on the initial score.

The frequent error is putting the strongest rank later in the played hand and expecting it to retrigger. Only the first card qualifies. Do not confuse it with Sock and Buskin, which retriggers all played face cards. Check actual sequencing after using cards that alter hand order, and make the first position deliberate rather than cosmetic.

Treat the current in-game tooltip as the source of truth: patches, platform versions, and mods can change values, availability, or interactions. This rating is editorial rather than permanent; it weighs copy value, scaling ceiling, route stability, and required setup. When a version changes, the tooltip is checked before strategy notes and tiers are revised.
