An enabler, not a payoff: pair it with face-card triggers.

It is unlockable and can appear through normal shop play.

Pareidolia makes every card a face card, so buy it only after identifying a face-card payoff or a clear route to one. It changes classification, not score by itself. Once the payoff exists, the card removes rank restrictions and lets ordinary deck draws feed the same trigger. That reliability can be worth a slot in a focused build.

Pareidolia can sit anywhere, so place it around the cards with actual positional needs. In a Photograph and Hanging Chad example, put the Jokers wherever copy effects require, then simply lead any played card first: Pareidolia supplies face-card status, Photograph supplies XMult, and Hanging Chad repeats that lead card. Without the payoff cards, its location changes nothing.

Canio gains access to every card as a potential face-card destruction target, while Photograph can trigger from any first played card. Triboulet and Sock and Buskin become more consistent because their face-card conditions no longer depend on Kings and Queens. Hanging Chad then lets a deliberately first card repeat a face-card payoff, provided the actual trigger is present.

Skip Pareidolia on a board with no face-card payoff, or when a deck already has enough Kings and Queens for its existing engine. It does not supply Mult, Chips, or retriggers alone. In a tight five-slot board, an enabler that has no immediate partner can be worse than a direct scoring or economy card.

The main mistake is treating Pareidolia as a payoff. All cards becoming face cards only matters when another ability checks that status. Do not buy it for Canio without a destruction source, and do not expect it to make any random card score more. Confirm which Jokers actually say face card before sacrificing a slot.

Treat the current in-game tooltip as the source of truth: patches, platform versions, and mods can change values, availability, or interactions. This rating is editorial rather than permanent; it weighs copy value, scaling ceiling, route stability, and required setup. When a version changes, the tooltip is checked before strategy notes and tiers are revised.
